You Can Make a Break, You Can Win or Lose...When the Heat is On

We are in full swing with Track and Baseball. Maddie hurt her leg high jumping at a track meet Tuesday, but she is ok. The doctor said she just needs a week of rest.

G-man ran in a meet at Big Sandy on Thursday. This was his first week to run with the Varsity. He has been running with the JV. He got third in the long jump, third in the 100 meter dash and first place in the 200 meter dash. There were five heats of the 200. This is not a good quality video I took with my phone, but here it is.

Hawkins High School was there. Hawkins is the hometown of Edwin Simmons, former UT football star. He was there sitting right behind Sissy and me. Somebody said his daughter was running. Another guy told me he was on the school board in Hawkins. I found the following at the Sports Illustrated Vault.

"At tailback the new face is 6'4", 230-pound Edwin Simmons, who last year was the Texas Class AA schoolboy 200-meter champion (21.5), finished second at the state meet in the long jump (23'3") and was rated the top back in the country by one recruiting service. A quarterback until midway through his junior year, Simmons scored 38 TDs and ran for 200 yards or more nine times as a senior. Says Davis, "He's so fast he could put handcuffs on a lightning bolt."

G-man has two baseball games today. Maddie is working on a history project with a friend. They are building a model of the Alamo. Sissy is playing in a tennis tournament.
