Twenty-nine and Holdin'

Today, when we got home from downtown, we celebrated Nalan's Birthday. Nalan is Max and Kira's mother. Beno, Markus' brother is their dad. Nalan is also a medical doctor. Her practice is here on the second floor of the apartment where we are staying. Here is a photo of Kira, Nalan, and Suzanne. Suzanne is Thomas' wife. Thomas is Markus' other Brother.

The party was held in the common hallway on the first floor of the apartment. It started at 4:00, but we didn't get back to the apartment until 5:30, so we were late, but there was still plenty of refreshments left. Grandma had baked 2 pecan pies, but they were both gone by the time we arrived. I can't blame them, these pies are worth disowning kin.

Beno took the kids for a ride in his Vette. They were impressed. They had to come all the way to Germany to ride in a cool sports car. G-man wants one now.

The kids played in the backyard and their adoptive mother, Almut, cooked them dinner of sausage, pasta and meat sauce, and her mother's warm potato salad. It was great. Louisa prepared a tray of vegetables and it was gone before we left. It included die Gurke (cucumber), fresh carrots from the farm where they keep the horses. We have been surprised how many non-pickle cucumbers we have eaten.

Almut also did laundry for us today. We have definitely crossed the line of imposition, and I don't know how we will go back, short of leaving.

  1. Wow, I didn't know Beno had a 'vette. Tell Nalan happy birthday and thanks to Almut for looking after you all. Love, Mom (Y.)
